First of all the folks at Wooden camera are pretty useless when it comes to customer support and answering questions. They've given me incorrect advice a few times now. Getting decent audio onto a RED for proverbial 'run and gun' shoots can be a challenge and when you are coming from a Sony FS7 where you don't need to give a second thought to Audio it's a little frustrating. Long story short, I was told that this is the item I need to use an XLR with a RED Weapon. I ordered it the same day I ordered my DSMC2 expander. RED was back ordered on that item and I didn't receive until +30 days. Quickly found out the A Box is not what I need. Past the 30 day window for Adorama and of course the folks at Wooden camera would not exchange my unused item for what I needed. Still surprised at their customer service.Do you really need this in the first place?Here is the thing, this solves the issue of XLR to 3.5 but it does not solve the power issue to the mic. A better solution that I have been using is an external tascam recorder. Takes care of the XLR to 3.5 AND the power to the mic. Major bonus, you can have a backup recording of the audio via the recorder which has already saved me several times as randomly the RED will introduce a repetitive static noise. If I didn't have the recording from the recorder I would have had serious problems as the audio is pretty much unusable.
